Supporting Parents with Teen Mental Illness

This parent circle event at Keyani is facilitated by Frederica who aims to provide a safe space for parents to share their real-life experience of supporting teen mental illness, without judgement. Even if you choose not to share, you can sit and listen and realise that you are not alone in your journey.

Adolescence is a common time for mental health issues to emerge. Hormonal changes and brain development during adolescence may put teens at a higher risk of mental health problems. Stress, genetics can also open the door for mental health issues. As a parent, we often lack resources to recognize the warning signs. So, when you face it - it can quickly become lonely, scary, and confusing. Resources are available about how to help your teens, but not so much about how to help you as parent coping with it. Reality is that as parent you also need a strong ecosystem to support you because you need to carry on with your life, your work, your personal life, your other children, etc..

Frederica’s mission is to hold the space for those who are ready, and in need of creating connections. Throughout her journey, she had to experience teens mental illness and the chaos it created in her life. Committed to help parents like her, she has been testing, documenting and meeting with teens therapist experts and has also studied sophrology and hypnotherapy.
