Full Moon Cacao Ceremony

A cacao ceremony is a ceremonial gathering or ritual where cacao, the raw form of chocolate, has been consumed for centuries due to its spiritual, medicinal, and ceremonial significance. These ceremonies serve to reconnect with nature, cultivate mindfulness, and promote emotional healing and spiritual growth. Cacao ceremony serves to open our heart.

The Mayans who lived in central America around 250—900 AD revered cacao as the food of the God. And this is exactly the meaning of its current botanical name Theobroma the Greek for Food of the Gods.

The Mayans believed that the cacao tree was a divine gift from the Gods that gave them fertility, abundance, and vitality. They used the beans in various rituals including religious ceremonies, marriage celebrations and funerary rites.

During ceremonies the participants would gather in a sacred space often led by a shaman or a spiritual leader who would guide the rituals and invoke the presence of the Gods. The cacao was consumed as a sacrament, believed to open the heart, elevate the spirit, and facilitate a deeper connection with oneself, others, and the spiritual realm.

Cacao derived from the Theobroma cacao tree has been revered for its medicinal properties by ancient Mesoamerican civilizations and continues to be recognized for its health benefits today. Here are some of the properties of cacao as a medicine.

A walk through of the ceremony which lasts between 1.5-2 hours roughly. It’s a very divine, peaceful, serene experience for each participant. After setting up the space with the representations of 5 elements of life, invoking divine presence, above all invoking mama cacao and setting up of the intention of the ceremony and consumption of cacao elixir accompanied with some body work and meditation with shamanic music, the session ends with sharing the experience and a blissful opened up heart center.
